Tunes recommended by the College of Piping for Institute of Piping Exams.

College instructors are asked to encourage their pupils to learn the prescribed pieces
detailed below as they all come from College publications and distributions.

This does not, of course, debar any other tunes of similar standard and quality. Students
can of course use tunes from one level to the next but this should be discouraged in order
to broaden repertoire as much as possible.

Candidates are required to submit twelve (12) tunes. Again, piobaireachd should be taken from Binneas s Boreraig, the Piobaireachd Society's collection or the Kilberry book, though settings of tunes from other sources are not precluded, provided these are of sufficient authority. Candidates are also required to perform a recital of 30 minutes. Tunes for the Graduate Certificate are certainly appropriate the collection s of William Ross and John Wilson and others may provide additional material. The recital must also include material from earlier sources such as those of Gunn, William Ross, Queen's piper, and MacPhee. These can all be found in the College Museum.
